A NIGHT AT THE LESTER'S WITH SHEENA AND JAMIE!

Sheena looking very elegant and managing to stand up, walk downstairs and dance in her 5 inch heels until the early hours!

Sheena West and Jamie Goldstein hosted a table at the 20th Anniversary of The Lester Awards held at the prestigious Hilton Hotel in Park Lane. With a great mixture of friends who included owners and friends it was a superb evening. Sheena and Jamie are the perfect partnership at both social occassions and in training racehorses. Sheena and Jamie - plus some of the owners had actually been to Fontwell earlier with Golan Way who came 4th in particularly testing conditions again. Hopefully, the spring weather is now on it's way and heavy and sticky ground plagueing so many racetracks will soon become just a memory - well, for a few months anyway!

Well done to all of those at the PJA who organised the evening. The food and service was superb the entertainment excellent and for once the usual auction did not drag on for hours! John Francome did a great job in only auctioning 4 lots - and did it within a record 15 minutes!
John Thompson and Jeremy Kyle made for an interesting double act, but I don't think Ant and Dec have anything to worry about just yet!

What I personally found so enjoyable at these awards was that it was for the jockeys, and there were so many of them present. It really was a who's who of jockeys from the UK, Ireland and even France! They seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the evening with many of them hitting the dance floor. AP McCoy who is one of the greatest Ambassadors for The Sport of Kings made an excellent acceptance speech. With a mixture of modesty, humour and plain old fashioned decency he delivered a very humbling speech that was more about other jockeys achievements namely Mick Kinane and Lester Piggott, than about any of his own. A true gentleman in so many ways.

AP's table was in front of Sheena's which he shared with Jonjo O'Neill, Mick Fitzgerald and Carl Llewellyn. As you can imagine, there was plenty of banter throughout the evening.

It was an excellent evening.

Thanks again to Sheena and Jamie for organising.

McCoy bags two more Lesters to take tally to 16

By Andrew Scutts 7:03PM 28 FEB 2010 TONY McCOY has even more Lesters than he does jockeys' titles after scooping two more awards at Sunday night's Professional Jockeys' Association annual prize-giving ceremony in London.

The 14-time champion rider was, inevitably, named Jump Jockey of the Year, but for good measure McCoy also won the Jump Ride of the Year award at the Shadwell-sponsored event.

At The Races viewers voted his brilliant performance on Wichita Lineman at the Cheltenham Festival, where the pair got up to win the William Hill Trophy in the last strides, the best jump ride of the year, taking McCoy's Lesters tally to 16.

Racing Post readers were responsible for Tom Queally receiving the Flat equivalent, for his winning effort on Midday in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Champion rider Ryan Moore was named Flat Jockey of the Year, while the apprentice honour went to Freddie Tylicki.

Hayley Turner bagged a seventh Lester intaking the prize for Lady Jockey of the Year.

Kevin Darley, in his role as chief executive of the PJA, paid tribute not only to the stars of the saddle among the guests at last night's black-tie bash at the Hilton Park Lane, but also to two young talents who tragically died in a fire last September, Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson.

Darley said: "Last year was one of momentous achievements, both human and equine, in the sport of British horse-racing.

"However, for jockeys especially, it will be a year recalled with great sadness because of the deaths of Jan Wilson and Jamie Kyne."
