SHEENA'S HORSES CANNOT HELP EITHER WINNING OR BEING PLACED......
TARAWA ATOLL CAME 2ND TODAY AT FOLKESTONE
Yes, another of Sheena's juveniles winning £955 (less deductions) for a second place at Folkestone today. Not bad for her 2nd attempt over the hurdles.
Congratulations to the connections!

===========================
Tarawa Atoll, comfortably held when falling on her hurdles debut at Plumpton (lay winded for a while), was clearly none the worse for that incident and she appeared to take a step forward, staying on to finish well clear of the newcomers. She may find a small race down in grade

SCREAMING BRAVE WINS AT LEICESTER - EASILY!!

Photos courtesy of Tracey Walsom, proud owner of Screaming Brave.
Sheena and her team don't seem to be able to do much wrong at the moment with the stunning looking Screaming Brave hacking up at Leicester this afternoon. Such great news for the owners, Tracey and Alex who as I said previously were dipping their toe in the water with a horse of their own for the first time. To have a 2nd and then a first with such a lovely horse is what many owners can only dream about, and Sheena seems to be able to make these dreams come true for so many owners!
Well done to Jamie Goldstein too. He has always highly rated this horse and the the way it works with Sheena's horses as it is a team effort. Jamie was convinced after Screaming Brave's 2nd place on his debut at Warwick that the horse would improve massively, and he certainly wasn't wrong.
Many congratulations to them all!

SCREAMING BRAVE, rated 60 on the Flat and runner-up on his debut over hurdles at Warwick, looks a natural. He went round in cruise control impressing with his accurate jumping and enjoyed a facile success. Problem is that he incurs a penalty and the juvenile races become progressively stronger as the season goes on.
Footnote: I was very shocked to hear that Leicester Racecourse were not able to supply a re run of the race, a glass of complimentary champagne - nor a momento for the winning owners! How on earth are we are able to encourage new owners to take part in This Sport of Kings if a racecourse cannot even supply a very basic acknowledgement of the horse winning to the owners. I will be writing to the racecourse just to find out why nothing was laid on for the owners.

KASHMINA WINS - TAUNTON NOVEMBER 12TH 2009
===================================================

Many congratulations to Heart of The South Racing and the jockey, Marc Goldstein. Marc has ridden Kashmina recently and although getting placed he had missed the top spot - until today! Great for all the connections and another great performance for such a genuine horse that gives her best time and time again. A great result for the yard!

Courtesy of The Racing Post
KASHMINA finally got her head in front over hurdles and did the job with plenty to spare, landing some nice bets in the process. She had beenrunning consistently enough in defeat of late, but struggling to see out her races that well and the deteriorating ground was far from certain to suit. It did just that, however, and she had the race in the bag coming to the final flight. Her best optionmay well be to turn out under a penalty and her confidence will be high after this.

SCREAMING BRAVE'S DEBUT OVER HURDLES AT WARWICK - FINISHING A VERY RESPECTABLE 2ND!

Screaming Brave - who won Best Turned Out! Well done, Hayley!
Team West does it (yet) again. Two owners Tracey Walsom & Alex Woodger, who had met Sheena through John Penny and Heart of The South Racing, had decided to take the plunge and buy a horse of their own. They went to Sheena with their budget and asked her to find them a horse. Sheena, after her usual thorough research, recommmended a 3yo colt Screaming Brave, yet another horse from the Mick Channon yard. Sheena's results with ex Channon horses continues to amaze those that know about them. With very little exception, Sheena manages to turn Mick's horses into some amazing hurdlers. Screaming Brave is, on Wednesday's performance at Warwick, no exception.
Tracey and Alex, both very familiar with the way that larger syndicates operate, were soaking up every moment of seeing their very own horse on the racetrack and over hurdles for the first time.
Screaming Brave is quite a stunning looking horse. It was clear to some of us that the best turned out award was already in the bag before he even set foot in the parade ring. Hayley had him looking fantastic. All colour co ordinated in the sponsors blue rug, and Hayley's wearing her matching blue jacket.
Tracey and Alex had chosen their own colours and the look on their faces when Jamie Goldstein came into the parade ring with the other jockeys was quite a picture.
Jamie, as usual was his usual laid back, funny and informative self. He already had his race plan sorted in his head, which must be quite difficult when it was this horses first run over hurdles on a race track. Nothing phases Jamie.
Suprisingly to some Screaming Brave was clearly the talking horse. Backed in from 6's on the Tote then finally into the 100/30 favourite come the off. People obviously liked what they saw, or know that Sheena picks her races for her horses very carefully and is excellent with her juveniles.
Jamie kept Screaming Brave up with the leading pack for the whole race and actually led on the run in. The jumping, although not always fluent was that of a horse that still has a bit to learn but Jamie, Sheena, Tracey and Alex were all thrilled with the result. There is clearly more to come from Screaming Brave and a great introduction to jumping for him and a great day out for his new owners!

---------------------------
Screaming Brave was well backed on his debut for his new trainer and looked pretty fit. He had every chance when hitting the second-last but wasgiven another chance when the winner hit the final flight, although he was always being held in the last half-furlong. He was a long way clear of the rest and should be able to win a similar contest

Nice silks, Jamie!

Certainly not disgraced with yet another steady run from Geoffdaw and at a good price of 20/1.

Geoffdraw was having his third consecutive run at the track and performed to a similar level as when fourth here last time, so puts the form into perspective. He will find things easier when going handicapping.
UPDATES FROM THE YARD NOVEMBER 2009
Bloody Rain..... but more about that later! Overall, things are picking up a bit now and a bit of moisture in the ground means we can start doing more with the horses.

============
As we know he has stayed in work all summer to keep him ticking over. He still needs far more rain than has come yet but he is much happier and ready to really get on with now.
Last One Standing
=================
Again much happier with the ground and have started to do more with him and should be out beginning of December time.

Lots and lots of cantering for him, he has never been fit before so an awful lot of conditioning work is required to get the condition he carries turned into muscle. He is 6 years old and never done any fast work at all so there is years of a lax life style to turn into a racehorse. Generally speaking it takes 6 months to get a horse race fit from scratch. First the skeletal system has to be conditioned to what's required i.e. the bones have to be conditioned by subjecting them to stress so they can remodel and be strong enough to withstand what's to come. Then the muscular frame has to be trained so that the muscles can respond correctly to the strain they are put under, the 'fast twitch' reaction has to be trained and here's a good one.....VO 2 max, which is the volume of oxygen over output very simply put and even simpler said by saying the muscles have to be conditioned to receive the max amount of oxygen when under pressure. And lastly when all this is in place the respiratory system has to be fine tuned. The lungs and heart come together for the last piece of the puzzle in that once the prep work is done and the horses body is up to it then we see what sort of a horse we have. Just as in people, age can affect this and the younger a horse is the easier it is to bring this all together, unless it has been fit before.
Galloping before a horse is ready can lead to all sorts of serious injury in training in bone, muscle and/or wind and just isn't worth it long term. With all that said he is doing fine and coming along well!

Ran at Plumpton a couple of weeks ago well enough to finish 4th of 11. I had a problem leading up to the race in that he had pus in his foot and he was only able to get out his box once for a canter in the week leading up to his last run. He'll run on Monday and should have a handicap mark after to go to work with.
Ladino
======
As you may know he's been in all summer, but just haven't been able to get on with him as I would have liked and the ticking clock has stopped for him, so he is of to the sales on Tuesday and hopefully he will end up with someone in a position to be able to wait for next spring.

Developing in to a really nice horse. His mentality has been a little suspect in the past but he seems to be doing ok at the moment. He is actually a not very bright horse and can make serious cognitive errors in life, not unlike some people (and we all know them) who can argue with themselves over absolutely nothing and no matter how much you tell them it's nothing the more of a pickle they get in, the best thing to do with people like that is to let them know your there when they are ready and not antagonise them and then Hey Ho they think that what you want is their own idea! A dressing down will only confirm to the horse that they are right to make a fuss about some thing and gets you nowhere at all.
Consequently at the moment he is working well and schooling over fences and hurdles well and it just a case of keeping the balance with work and him thinking it's his idea. With any luck he will run in the next few weeks and complete his learning.

A 3 year old I bought at Newmarket last week from Mick Channon. He is a beautiful colt by Alhaarth, out of a mare called Hawas who also bred Power Elite a duel grade 2 hurdles winner and one time Triumph Hurdle favourite.
He is a miler on the flat and has won of 72. A minor setback keep him of the track this season until a couple of weeks ago, but I know what that was and as he likes soft ground and hasn't had a summer of racing he is perfect to get on with.

A lovely filly and happy with some cut in the ground and back on the straight and narrow to get on with

Working to his come back on the 13th November. Everything has healed most excellently and he is going really well.

He should debut for us on the 4th or 7th, working brilliantly with the other juveniles and looking forward to him running.

Over her corn problems and coming along nicely......next challenge is to find good ground!!

Showed at Kempton exactly why we were so confident of him winning first time (which he didn't) and also shows that they are horses not machines a lesson that needs constantly reminding, however he put it all straight by winning easily at Kempton from the odds on favourite and was so unlucky to be denied a listed success on Friday at Wetherby when he was beaten a length after some serious argy bargy.........I'm sure its got nothing to do with north versus south and we can appeal, but would only be appealing for 2nd which makes little difference at the end of it. The positives are that he is clearly up to that level.
He clearly doesn't shirk the issue when many horses would have said 'that's enough of that' and also he hasn't got another penalty to carry at this stage. He's had 3 races in 5 weeks which is plenty for a juvenille so will have a couple of easy weeks before looking for another race for him.
Golan Way
=========
As I said at the top 'Bloody Rain' Although it didn't bother him too much, the rain at Chepstow last week in the Silver Trophy played right in to the hands of Mr Thriller who loves soft ground, the biggest compliment I guess was that Mr. Pipe knew we were his main danger and didn't let us go, unlike the rest of the field who mistakenly thought that both horses would come back to them. Again, looking for positives Golan Way has trained on and it was a huge run after 7 months of. Having decided to stick to hurdles this season and step him up in trip to see him settle and jump so well I'm happy its the right thing to do. Next year I think he will make an almighty 3 mile chaser and well worth the wait.

========
The little darling just keeps coming 4th with the promise of next time, a bit frustrating for all involved with her, but she just needs things to go right and then it will all look so easy. She's tough, sound and genuine and her rating means she can run every fortnight and always guarantee a bit of shout value. I believe that a couple of shares have recently become available in her for anyone interested. Please contact Heart of The South Racing for further details.
Whiterocks
==========
Had a bit of time off after arriving here and now in full work, he's a little sweety and enjoying the soft ground. I think he will be fine enough.
Tobago Bay
==========
Ran so well in the Pertemps Qualifier at Cheltenham. He stays 3 miles fine, just that 4 is so young to be doing it against older horses. Horses strength and stamina increase with age and he needs a bit of age now.
He is due his winter break now and will come back next spring with vengeance.
Tarawa Atoll

She's doing well and has done plenty of schooling since her Plumpton mishap, she may go back there in a couple of weeks........A different filly on softer ground I am looking forward to her over the next few months.

He's well and hopefully enjoying doing nothing for a little while!
